August Update

Well here we are nearly into Spring and soon the Christmas Decorations will start appearing, time really does fly.

I’ve had a busy time since my last update.  Have been working hard with Carol Lander from Roo Gully Wildlife Sanctuary down in Boyup Brook.  Carol is also a Film Maker and we’ve been working together on a DVD called “Homegrown” –  The Journey.  Like making an album, it’s a long process but it will be finished around the end of September and I’ll have it in time for Tamworth and our own Boyup Brook Country Music Festival in February. I was down in Boyup Brook last weekend and we shot some lovely footage on the banks of the beautiful Blackwood River. Also dropped into the Kirup Roadhouse on the way down South as they’ve been selling a stack of my new CD “Homegrown” and I wanted to say thanks.  So played a few songs at the Roadhouse  and then another couple up at the Kirup Pub.  Sometimes the best gigs are the impromptu ones. My thanks to all at Kirup for their fantastic support and to Janine, Jacqui and Rochelle at the Roadhouse.

Will be heading back to Kirup in October for a Country Music night at the pub to raise some money to get to Tamworth in 2012. My great friend Rochelle and I are going on a road trip, Thelma and Louise style, except we won’t be driving off a cliff!!!  I am so looking forward to it.

This coming weekend I’m off down to Cowaramup, just north of Margaret River for the “Hoedown” at Tauntons Farm.  It was fantastic last year and I’m really looking forward to  showcasing the new album as well as running a songwriting workshop. Should be  a lot of fun. My good mate Vicki Lee will be down there performing as well.

As for me, I’m travelling well.  Just completed cycle 5 of my chemo treatment.  Some days are better than others but one thing I’ve learned is that all days are precious.  I’m making plans and still have my hopes and dreams that cancer can’t take away.  Am very excited to be heading off to Tamworth in January. Haven’t booked any gigs but my Mates in the Industry tell me I’m welcome to get up on their shows. I truly am blessed to have such great friends.

Just before I  released “Homegrown” I was at a gig at The WA Country Music Centre and met up with an old friend from the early days and he had a copy of a cassette of original Gospel songs I’d recorded back in 1985,  (now I’m really showing my age). I didn’t even have a copy myself  so he converted it to CD format for me and I had some duplicated.

At my CD Launch I gave the album away with the purchase of both  ‘Homegrown” and  “Life, Love and Laughter Lines”.  I’d like to offer the same deal now.  The album is called “Changes” and I  guess it’s a bit of a Collectors’ item.

You can purchase both “Homegrown” and “Life, Love and Laughter Lines” by heading to my music page.  You can also have a listen to the tracks on each. I have paypal avaiiable or you can  send a money order /chq to P.O. Box 4050 Beldon WA 6027, if you’d prefer.  If you’d like your Album’s signed let me know as I’m never sure whether to do that or not.

Well I’ll look fwd to catching up again next month.  In the meantime, stay safe and thank you all for your continuing support.

Love  Debxx

July update

Posted on by Deb Beckett

Hi to everyone.  Thought it time to update you on what’s been happening in my neck of the woods.

It’s been a month since I launched the new album “Homegrown” and what a month it’s been.  Firstly thanks to everyone who purchased the album through my website.  Also to the many DJ’s here in Australia who’ve been giving my songs  a lot of airplay. Without you no one would ever hear us Independents!!!

Last weekend I headed down to Boyup Brook to do some interviews to finish off the DVD i’ve been working on with Carol Lander from Roo Gully Productions.  Had a fabulous time which included a Party on Saturday night to celebrate the end of filming.   Connie kis Andersen, Billy Higginson, Ashleigh Magill and Vicki Lee all took to the stage to entertain us .  I did a few songs as well and it was a great night at what has to be one of the best Country Music venues in Australia at Harvey Dickson’s Country Music Centre.

Last week I got my first Publishing deal at the ripe old age of ##*** !!  I’m over the moon , not over the hill!!  Very exciting for me and who knows maybe you’ll hear a Deb Beckett song recorded by someone else before too long!!

I’ve welcomed a lot of new facebook friends and my song “When my Time Comes” has generated a lot of hits on You Tube.  I put the song out with the message, that early testing for bowel cancer can save more than 2000 lives a year.  It’s a simple test but so, so worth it.  Bowel Cancer caught in it’s early stages is more than 90% curable. So if you’re in the 50’s and over group, please don’t put off getting tested!!

For those of you who’ve contacted me through my website, want to say a huge thanks for your words of support.  I’m doing well and just finishing my second cycle of Chemo.  It’s not so bad and I’m keeping positive that I can beat this thing.  Have been using the down time to finish off some songs including a new comedy song which I’m gonna call “The number 2 song”, it helps to have a sense of humour, that’s for sure.

If you’d like to purchase “Homegrown” you can go to my Music page and purchase through paypal or send a money order/cheque to P.O. Box 4050 BELDON  W.A.  6027.

Until next time travel safe.

Love Deb xx
