The Story

Written by award-winning singer/song writer Debbie Beckett, the CRAZY for PATSY was a great success on the NSW club circuit in the late 1990s when it featured her sister Karen Beckett, a Variety award-winning performer and a four-time Australian Mo award winner.

Deb Beckett Singing“I was living in Sydney doing a writing degree at the University of Technology and wrote CRAZY FOR PATSY for Karen,” Debbie recalls.
“I had fallen in love with Patsy’s beautiful voice while performing with country music bands in WA and wanted to put together a tribute.

“I spent a year doing research into Patsy’s life and music and was careful to keep the tribute as authentic as possible.
“Actual transcripts of radio announcements and Patsy’s conversations are written into the script.
“Karen did the show and I did the harmonies for her and it was the realization of a dream for me.
“When I moved back to Perth in 2000 I thought it was something I could do myself.”
Response has been enthusiastic with a sell-out show last year at Burswood Theatre in Perth and a recent concert in Rockingham, south of Perth, also attracting a sell-out audience.

Plans are now well in hand to present CRAZY FOR PATSY around regional WA followed by a tour to the Eastern States to take the show back to where it began.
“Patsy sang more than 100 songs during her career and we do 35 in the show,” Debbie said.
“It does include some interesting stories about her life but it’s really about the music.
“Patsy Cline is the ultimate torch singer. She opened the door for female artists and her music has endured for more than 40 years.
“A new generation of fans came along when the Sweet Dreams biopic was released.
“It always amazes me how many younger people are at the shows and they know all the words to her songs.”
